Exploring the Latest Design Trends: A Peek into the Atlanta Market, July 2024

Updated: Aug 15

Design and renovation color trends for the bedroom

Guest blog by Georgia Beckner, Senior Interior Architecture major at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Georgia is serving as a summer intern at Home By Hattan Design+Build, and she recently traveled with Karen to Atlanta Market to visit the showrooms and meet with representatives of our favorite vendors for furniture, fabrics, lighting, rugs, and more.

The Atlanta Market, a major event in the world of home decor and interior design, recently showcased a range of exciting trends set to redefine our living spaces this summer and beyond. From vibrant colors to innovative furniture, here’s a look at what stood out at this year’s event.

Color Trends: Greens, Lavender-Pinks, and Warm Whites

Color lovers had much to celebrate at the Atlanta Market, where a shift away from stark minimalism was evident. Greens—from calming sage to deep emerald—dominated many displays, bringing a sense of freshness and tranquility. Alongside these green hues, lavenders with hints of pink offered a sophisticated twist on traditional pastels.

Blue, a timeless favorite, remained strong in updated shades and textures. However, there was a noticeable trend towards warmer neutrals like creamy whites and sandy linen tones, creating inviting and cozy interiors. The message was clear: embrace vibrant colors and move away from the dominance of black.

Wallpaper Revival: Florals, Grass Cloth, and Dog Motifs!

Wallpaper made a strong showing at the Atlanta Market as a versatile tool for personalizing any room. Floral patterns adorned many showrooms, channeling nature-inspired designs that exuded serenity and beauty. Equally popular were grasscloth wallpapers, available in traditional and vinyl options to suit various tastes.

A delightful surprise was the emergence of dog motifs in decor—from whimsical balloon dogs to elegant framed artwork featuring canines. These playful elements added charm and warmth to interior spaces, appealing to pet enthusiasts and design enthusiasts alike.

Creative Art Displays: Fabrics and Rug Remnants

Innovative approaches to wall decor were a highlight, with designers showcasing framed fabrics and rug remnants as unique art pieces. These displays celebrated craftsmanship and sustainability, inviting storytelling into our homes while showcasing the beauty of textiles beyond their usual roles.

Furniture Trends: Recliners, Sectionals, and Woven Details

Furniture enthusiasts found plenty to admire with a diverse range of offerings. Recliners, traditionally valued for comfort, received a chic update with modern designs that blend functionality with style. Particularly notable was a recliner designed for compact spaces, perfect for conserving floor space by sitting snugly against walls.

Sectionals remained a favorite for their comfort in seating arrangements and as a canvas for experimenting with colors and patterns. Woven details emerged as a prominent theme, adding texture and visual interest to furniture pieces, including rattan and caning details. While round shapes remained popular for their soft appeal, wide square arms catered to those preferring a more structured look.

Craftsmanship and Comfort: Enhancing the Living Experience

The Atlanta Market emphasized the importance of craftsmanship and comfort in every design detail. Meticulous attention to construction and thoughtful solutions for diverse seating preferences underscored a commitment to enhancing everyday living through personalized design choices.

Conclusion: Embracing Personal Style

Leaving the Atlanta Market, I felt inspired to bring newfound creativity and personal expression into my home. The trends—from vibrant colors to unique motifs and furniture styles—resonated with my desire to create a space that reflects my personality and fosters comfort and joy. As I embark on this design journey, I carry with me the spirit of innovation and exploration that defines the Atlanta Market—a place where design dreams come to life.

Karen's Comments and Observations:

Georgia and I had a wonderful time at Atlanta Market this year, and I loved hearing her take-aways and impressions. I agree with all of her comments! Some of her observations in trending colors and materials I have seen emerging over the past couple of years, you can read about these trends and more in these past blog posts: 6 Popular Design Trends, How to Create a Cozy Home All Year Long, and Luxe Home Makeover Ideas. I'd love for you to click and read the one that appeals to you!

While I love going to Market for inspiration and to see all the new "pretties" that are available for our home designs, what I appreciate the most is the education and connection with our furniture and decor vendors!

This year I focused on meeting with some of my favorite upholstery and seating vendors, to learn about construction and materials, and to do the "sit test" for comfort and firmness - so you don't have to when shopping for a new sofa! The more I know the more I can guide you in choosing the BEST pieces for your preferences and your lifestyle.

I even picked up a wonderful new outdoor furniture line that I'm really excited about! They have tons of choices in frames, fabrics, and styles, and offer quality products. (They provide Dollywood with all of their outdoor furniture!)

I love attending these Markets and other Trade Events so I can be better informed and better serve you, my dear clients, as I help you design, renovate, furnish, and decorate your beautiful home!
